Do You Need a Lawyer?

Despite our best efforts to simplify the divorce process, sometimes it is necessary to employ an attorney as a representative in divorce.  One of the parties may be reluctant to seek resolution to the divorce outside the courtroom, or the parties’ communication may have deteriorated to the point that direct negotiation and mediation are not possible. Representation may even be useful in mediation, although it is not possible to employ both a mediator and representative from the same organization, for obvious reasons of conflict of interest.

Legal representation in divorce requires both strong advocacy and a recognition that unbridled litigiousness may unnecessarily deplete the parties’ resources. Moreover, unlike a contract dispute or personal injury case, the disputing parties may be required to work together for many years following the divorce, particularly if there are children involved. The Harding Law Office always keeps in mind the fact that all the monies going to pay lawyers essentially comes from the pockets of the children.  Balancing this need for zealous advocacy with reasonableness is the Harding Law Office's primary goal in its representation of clients in divorce and post-decree disputes.
